PhD Position in Experimental Evolution and Bioinformatics
A fully funded 4-year PhD position to study the impact of genome duplication on volvocine algae, focusing on Chlamydomonas reinhardtii, using experimental evolution and bioinformatics.
Deadline
Duration
48 months
Eligibility
Master's degree in Biology, Biotechnology, Bioengineering, Microbiology, Bioinformatics or a related field. Strong background in evolution, genomics, and/or algal biology. Basic programming knowledge. Fluent in English.
Description
The VIB-UGent Center for Plant Systems Biology is offering a PhD position embedded in the Bioinformatics and Evolutionary Genomics group. The project investigates how genome dynamics and environmental conditions shape the evolutionary success of polyploids using experimental evolution approaches (long-term laboratory experiments, culturing, phenotyping), molecular and genomic analyses (sequencing), and bioinformatics/statistical analysis. The candidate will transition from intensive wet-lab work to data analysis and scientific writing.
